In today’s merchandising culture where every available piece of real estate from a sneaker tongue, watchband, or cell phone touts some artist collaboration between the maker of said product and the newfound artistic talent, you have to wonder how much of that work is truly grit inspired.
SP.One is OG. Period
AKA Greg Lamarche, he grew up in Queens in the 70s and 80s. In the 90’s when the notorious NYC crackdown of the Giuliani years fell like a 20-pound sledge on a windshield, he was among the graffiti artists who successfully made the transition to galleries and commercial work. He influenced NYC’s contemporary art scene and eventually a generation of artist worldwide. His backbone is proving to be his longevity.
I recently caught up with him to talk about current projects, upcoming shows and plans for the future.
