What is it that got you into photography?
My friends, but everyone picks up their parent’s camera when they’re little.
was it film?
Yeah. We used to take photos skating in the front yard.
But did you have any idea of film grain? OR THINGS LIKE BLACK AND WHITE VERSUS COLOR?
No, I still don’t. [laughs] I don’t have any idea, really. Just kidding. I’m learning now.
What is it that you’re learning?
Well, I started taking it seriously a few years ago. I’m around a lot of cool people doing really cool stuff. I feel like all my friends are really creative and talented, and I wanted to document that. That’s what really got me into it.
What got you into it exactly though? Like why a camera?
I used to film skateboarding a lot.
So skateboarding got you into it?
Skateboarding got me into everything that I’m into today.
Did it get you into pussy?
No. [laughs]
Did you start out by shooting skateboarding?
I just shot my friends. I never really shot skateboarding photos. It was more like what we did every day. I guess there was some skateboarding—cruising down the street and all that. I just wanted to capture my friends lives.
What type of photographers do you look at and think “wow. that’s inspirational.”
I feel like the person that got me into it was Todd Jordan. He’s an amazing photographer and a good friend of mine. Just looking at his photos got me psyched to go out and buy a nice camera and take photos.
