So you just kind of skipped school and got into it?
I’m schooling with it every day.
Elaborate. Explain a little more about that.
I’ve been interning for a photographer, Kenneth Cappello. He’s an amazing photographer. I have a lot of friends that help me out, too.
How about any dudes that are out of skateboarding?
William Eggleston. Helmut Newton. Peter Sutherland, Jerry Hsu, Todd Jordan, Juergen Teller, Greg Hunt, Ed Templeton, Ryan McGinley. I don’t want to be a skateboard photographer, though. I appreciate it, but a lot of these people aren’t just skateboard photographers. I just admire my friends work. They work hard.
What are you looking for in your viewfinder?
Whatever the camera is pointing at. [laughs] I just want to capture what I see on a daily basis. I’m very fortunate for what I get to see. I just want to shoot things that I think are beautiful
You sound like you’re a bit of a conceited prick. [laughs]
You’re an asshole, dude. [laughs] Why are you turning this on me?
what do you think is beautiful?
You.
Well, that’s obvious.
I mean, I don’t shoot landscape, architecture, or anything like that.
You don’t think that’s beautiful?
I do, but there are plenty of people who capture that better than I can.
don’t you think there are a lot of people capturing what you’re telling me about right now?
Yeah, of course. Everyone’s always going to capture something similar.
What do you do that stands out? Besides the other point and shoot dudes?
I don’t know how to answer that. I can’t really say what’s going to separate me. I think I just capture creativity.
What does that mean?
I’m capturing creative moments with my friends. Whether it’s someone skating down the street, you at an art show or making art, or you and your kid.
