When you look through your frame, what are you composing?

Every shot is different.

But what’s your thought when you’re looking through?

I’m thinking about waiting for the right moment to take the photo—timing, expression, happiness, capturing emotions. I think I feel like I want my photos to be positive. I want people to feel joy when they look at my photos.

What do you prefer? Black and white Or color?

Color. Then again, every time I look at a black and white photo, I wish I shot more of that. It reminds you of a more authentic time. If you can get something to feel awesome without color, then it’s more amazing.

What is it like when you have a photograph that’s been published Or you see it somewhere?

It feels really good. If it’s something somebody asks me to put out, it feels very rewarding. I see my photos all the time; so it’s hard to think of one as more special than any other. When people want to
publish one, it feels good. It feels like they’re appreciating what I’m doing.

What about the old myth that a photograph steals a person’s soul?

That depends on why the person is shooting the photograph. If somebody is going to shoot you in a dark place and try to use that image to better their photography, I don’t think that’s fair. I think the subject has to feel good about it, just like the photographer. If you’re getting Lindsay Lohan walking out of a bar all fucked up and you’re going to use that to destroy her, that takes some soul out of the subject.

What if that’s making her look at herself and say maybe I should better myself?

Maybe. There’s tons of explanations for that myth, but I feel you have to relate with the subject.

Is photography an art form? Or is it it’s own form?

I think it’s an art form. You’re making something that people want to see, hopefully. Yes, it’s is an art form.

Do you think it should have it’s own separate identity?

It does. It’s called photography. [laughs] It’s a fine art.

Now it’s a fine art?

Dude, can you not ask me trick questions? [laughs]

What about picking up chicks? Is that an art form?

It is for you. I know I have a hard time picking up chicks.

Do you like to shoot girls as well as men?

Of course. Women are beautiful, but I’m just around more men than women.

What is your drive in life?

Creativity. I just want to be able to be creative and do what I want to do. Kind of like you! I want to have an impact.

How do you view the world as a whole?

Kind of fucked up.

Why is it that way? In your opinion.

I think right now is a very dark time for a lot of people. Everybody works for the man. They put years into it, and then they get laid off because of this “recession.” It’s hard for people to be happy; so if you can be creative and do what you want to do and make it by, then that’s happiness to me.
