In this past Sunday’s New York Times Magazine, photographer Ryan McGinley contributes a photo essay entitled The Highfliers. The essay consists of photos of gravity-defying Olympic athletes as they try to soar to victory while others use gravity to an advantage. This artful levitation makes these sports truly unique, and McGinley captures it perfectly, snapping the shutter at the perfect time when it appears that these athletes are floating above the world.
