Documentary Film Series: Sparrow Songs

Sparrow Songs is a documentary film project from filmmaker Alex Jablonski, and cinematographer Michael Totten. The duo have committed to release one documentary short each month for an entire year. The films are viewable for free on their website: www.thesparrowsong.com. This project is intriguing for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that all of the films are fantastic. They are subtle, engaging, and devoid of the thick brushstrokes that can overpower some documentaries.

This project stands outside of the realm of what we expect from free content. This is not a couple new guys trying to gain exposure, Jablonski and Totten have screened their work at big-boy festivals like Sundance and Tribecca. Their site is ad-free, and they aren’t even asking for you to tweet about them or sign up for an email list. In today’s desperate search for a new indie film distribution model, it is almost disconcerting to see such quality content made available for free.

I know this isn’t the first film of the series, but since we are coming in halfway through the project I figured I would start off with a real crowd pleaser.

Yes, this film contains porn stars. Yes, they are performing in the film. No, it is not what you think.
