Approaching commercial work, how do you begin to think out a project? How does it differ if the end result is, say, a jacket as opposed to a print or some other two-dimensional product?

I only take on commercial projects, in particular say fabric prints for fashion, if I know there is going to be a pure result. I scan in elements of my painting and the components. if you like, of my works and then render them into a graphic or pattern. Because the finished product comes directly from my painting then there is a pure language, I haven’t had to compromise, and the consumer is offered a realistic product as opposed to something that is ‘in the style of.’ The camo jackets are probably the most successful. I have seen people all over the world wearing these, and every time I see someone in the street wearing one I feel like it’s one of my canvases walking around. It is also a great way for people to own your works who might not necessarily buy a canvas, and it will be far more useful in a storm than a screen print.
