In what essentially bridged the gap between underground and mainstream, and in the meantime, kind of put an end to the true, golden era of “backpacker” hip-hop, Kanye West brought together Mos Def and Talib with Busta Rhymes and Jay-Z on a remix to Kweli’s “Get By.” And how good does it sound to hear a song go from Mos to Jay to Kanye to Kweli to Busta? It’s still refreshing to this day.
