Russell Shoemaker “It’s Not Everything” At Slingluff Gallery

From the press release:
Russell Shoemaker, a Kansas City painter whose solo show opens at The Slingluff Gallery on May 7th from 6-9p, creates a loop of view participation. By letting the viewer piece together a painting to form a complete image, Shoemaker borrows and gathers viewer memories.

In “It’s Not Everything,” Shoemaker focuses on themes of connectivity and symbiosis in ever-shifting environments that are evolutionary and primal—channeling traditionally transcendent Rousseau-ian landscapes. Bodies, be it complete, abstract, fragmented or transformed, play a centerpiece in the work, attempting to literally bring the viewer inside the painting. The dreamscape effect is emphasized by recurring objects that connect the pieces into a cohesive, yet disjointed world. Shoemaker interrupts and fragments the usual “pretty” landscape into a grappling effect of hallucinogenic seduction that is able to push and pull without inflicting a specific biography, truth or fiction.

“It’s Not Everything” opens May 7th from 6-9 pm and runs through May 30th.
