Roe Ethridge “Le Luxe” At Andrew Kreps Gallery

Opening last week, Andrew Kreps Gallery has a great installation of works by Roe Ethridge. Featuring both recent works as well as a series that spans six years, “Le Luxe” covers themes of inventories, personal vs. commissioned, analog vs. digital, the term Le Luxe and its context in regards to luxury brands, and the fact that it’s the title of two Mattisse paintings dated 1907 and 1913, the everyday luxuries of time, and shrimp cocktail are explored in recent works. These are presented alongside images that are selected from a commission that Ethridge recently finished for Goldman Sachs spanning six years and documenting the construction of their new headquarters to create an non-descriptive, if not abstract “snapshot” of being a dweller of New York in this specific time and space, utitlizing classic photo formats of landscape, portraiture, still life and documentary.
